Saddle stitching, the closure knot?

Recommended Posts

I read a thread on the forum yesterday about how to make a nice end to the stitching, but I can not find the thread

can someone post a picture of how to do

Any grammatical errors you find in my poor English, you can keep :)

you can just back stitch 2-3 holes and go 1 extra with the front to back so that both threads come out the back. While pulling both snugly ,,place a really sharp knife as close as you can to the 2 threads and WIGGLE THE THREADS to cut them. DON'T TRY TO CUT THE THREADS BY SAWING BACK AND FORTH WITH THE BLADE AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN- YOU MIGHT CUT THE LEATHER OR ON OF THE PREVIOUS STITCHES.

A tap with the mallet and you are good to go.

Yes !

That was what I was looking for, but what do I do with the right hand side ?

do you cut them on both sides, or do you stick the needle from right to left and cut them on the same side ?

I will make some watch straps and I don't want the end sticking up on the front side of the strap

Yes...

See this link.. all the way down to the bottom in the section titled "Finishing Off" is a photo that illustrates the technique.
