Bag Punch

I'm looking for a bag punch to cut belt slots in my holsters. I want one that is approx 1 7/8" X 3/8" or even 7/16". I called Weaver, Zack White, Barry King (who referred me to someone else who did not have it) Springfield and no luck. Does anyone here have a source for one?

I have tried the chisel and round punch method and I can't seem to make the slot as neat and clean as I like it to be.

Call Texas Custom Dies and have one made. You won't find one that wide otherwise.

What is the normal width of a belt slot? I have seen some that look too narrow for double thick gun belts. Are they really too narrow? I have seen a punch from Tandy for 1 1/2" slots. Is this too narrow?

The minimal size for actual gun belts is 3/8" in my opinion. Anything else is too narrow and it just won't work.

I just ordered mine at 1 7/8" X 7/16" from Texas Dies. Nice people and the price was not bad either. It should be here in about a week! Can't beat that.

The Texas Dies products look like a good bet. For anyone in Europe or anyone wanting an alternative source, you could try Joseph Dixon & Sons website:

They are more expensive and, of course, there's always postage costs from across the pond, but they are really excellent tools which will last a lifetime. Also, eBay comes up with such items as well, but you can't bet on them being the right size!

Ordered a 1&1/2X3/8 and a 1&3/4X3/8 total cost with shipping was only $144. Very good service and they appear to be excellent quality. Like an Osborne on steroids. They did require a little reshaping on the ends and sharpening as they only come rough ground. Not a problem about fifteen minutes work and they cut through 8/9OZ HO with one whack from a 3lb maul. Edge seems to hold up well. I'm happy.
