Tkleather1 Report post Posted February 2, 2010 Hi all, I have been told by a few people that I should start using a center shader. The problem I have is first I dont have one and second I dont know how to use one and third I dont know if I would tell a difference. So here is my question, could some one post a picture of a flower center without the use of a center shader and one with the use of a shader? I jsut want to see if it is that significant of a differance. I was told you can use a lined thumb or pearshader and I messed with that a little on some scrap and it looked horrible in my opinion so hopefully you experts will chime in and help me see the light. King's X Report post Posted February 2, 2010 Yes, you can use a lined pear shader and with some practice, you can make it look good. I have BK flower shaders only because when I started Chan Geer recommended them. I have used a pear shader, camo and veiner to get whatever effect I think I need. Now remember I said "I think I need?" Disclaimer provided. I posted some pictures to show 3 different projects with 3 different shader options. terrymac Report post Posted February 2, 2010 Tim, If you have an opportunity, get a copy of the "Sheridan Style Carving" book written by Bill Gardner and Clinton Fay. They go into a detailed explanation of the why's and how's of the special tools utilized in this style of tooling. They are masters and you will not believe some of the work shown in this book. I will start reading it tonight if I dont have too much homework. This goin back to school sure puts a damper on riding colts and toolin leather.
