terrymac Report post Posted February 10, 2010 If you will go by the "Sheridan Style Carving" by Bill Gardner and Clinton Faye, there is an excellent, detailed section on the tools, and how to use them. I bought my book at Tandy's. So far, I beleive the bevelers and thumbprints are the most essential, followed by lifters. Hope this helps Terry
TimKleffner Report post Posted February 10, 2010 Howdy James Your wanting to get into Sheridan style tooling GREAT . The tools are different than western floral tools. the angle of the bevelers is steeper and the thumbprints [pear shaders] are thinner. What makes Sheridan style different is also the design layout. The patterns move in a tight circles and move from flower to flower with inter locking vines . If your interested in learning 'how to ' Chan Geer has instructional videos and pattern packs. These are available thru Hide Crafter Leather and possibly Weaver Leather. If your looking for entry level Sheridan tools, majority of them are hand made and hand checkered. Barry King has, by far, the best tool for the money out there. Give Barry a call and get a catalog. 307.672.5657 Happy tooling Tim

BarryS Report post Posted February 14, 2010 James, I agree with the other postings in here. I myself just started tooling in the Sheridan Style around a 8 months ago. The tools that I use are almost all Barry King. If you go to the link below Barry King has actually lists of the recommended tools for the sizes of projects that you are going to be tooling. However, when I bought my tools Clint Fay instructed me to buy bevelers, thumbprints, undershots (lifters) and bargrounders first. Then he told me to buy camouflagers, mule feet and flower centers next. Hopefully this helps out and post some pics when you get to completing some of your Sheridan Style projects. Have a great day. http://www.barryking...om/sizelist.htm
