ABC3 Report post Posted February 14, 2010 Making concealment belts & holsters: Using Zack Whites manuel Edge Ink for the edges. After drying using Sealer (Atom Wax). When I apply the Atom Wax the Edge Dye is coming off. And after the sealer is applied it is impossible to apply the Edge Dye again. It will not take. All I want to do is have a nice burnished slick finish to the edge. What do I need to do for the Edge Dye? Burnishing is no problem. Any and all comments appreciated... NoahL Report post Posted February 14, 2010 In addition to Mr. Park's tutorial, I will mention that you don't need Edge Ink--you can use whatever dye you used for the rest of the piece. I've noticed that Leather Balm w/ Atom Wax tends to lift some dye, even if you've buffed the heck out of the leather, but it shouldn't take it off your edges like it is doing with the Edge Ink. Alternately, you could just burnish the crap out of the edges and they will get nice and dark on their own ~Noah
Frank Report post Posted February 14, 2010 One of the reasons you cannot re-apply the dye after using leather balm is because of the wax. Wax will not take any type of leather dye. The dye will just bead up on the surface. Frank
ABC3 Report post Posted February 14, 2010 terrahyd; I found the tutorial by Bobby Parks and I will get the ingredients and try it. Thanks so much. Noahl; Thanks for your input, as well. On my belts I do not dye the liner, only the front strap. And then burnish both to a nice black finish. So if I use my regular dye Fiebings Pro Oil, would it not absorb into the natural liner even though I have sealed it with Atom Wax ? I just finished taking a sample pc, set it and burnishing it and it does turn dark. But a brown & I need Black.' Anyother suggestions ?

It would absorb into the liner if you aren't careful--just apply the dye very carefully. When I do it, I usually tightly pack four cotton balls into a scrap of cloth, and as long as I hold it tight, it doesn't run or go where I don't want it to go. Alternately, you can use Q-Tips ~Noah
ABC3 Report post Posted February 14, 2010 Noahl; Thanks so much for your help. I've been working all morning on a solution & thus far nothing works. I tried putting the dye on the edge with several things & I cannot get that perfect line. I guess what I'm really looking for is a product such as Atom Wax (sealer) that will not lift the edge dye. Once it's lifted you cannot go back & redye.
