Tandy doesn't carry them anymore. Try Hidecrafter or Springfield Leather (click on Springfield's banner )

The best ones I have I got from Jeff Mosby at Grey Ghost Graphics. He's got pictures of them on his brochure. Norm Lynds also makes them. You could email him for more info on his. Norm makes some pretty nice tools too.

I made a couple of lifters out of scratch awls. Their not hard to make just cut the end of the awl off sand or grind to the angle you want hit it a lick on your stone buff it smooth and start lifting. They work great and are cheap.

They used to sell them as Pro Petal. Sort of a pic here. I'm not so big on them myself, but the one fella has one made from grinding an angle on a screwdriver (that way you have a handle that fits your palm). Since it's not plated, put a coat of laquer on the steel tip so it doesn't oxidize from the wet leather and stain your project.

I pulled up a pic of a Pro Petal Lifter on the enternet and went to the shop and made a couple different sizes out of stainless welding rods, just a thought, CHARLES.

Ground and polished them they work great, I was impressed, CHARLES

I made my own from some old screwdrivers. Stainless steel rod of whatever diameter you need would also work. pick up some flea market hafts and you're done.

Thank you ALL I think I will transform my AWL into a lifter and maybe a screwdriver for a larger one as well.

I remembered to take a couple of pictures of the lifters i made. I'm not sure what angle their on, i did trial and error till i found one that worked good.

As it appears I may already have lifters....perhaps the modelling tool i got will work. It appears to have proper metal part large on one end small on the other and shaped like a pen type. No handle.....perhaps with no handle i will not be able to get leverage or necassary angle?

The modeling tool will work,I believe thats what its for, but be mindful of the back edge it will leave marks in your beveled edge if you pry against it. I made mine more like the Jeff Moseby ones. You could modify the tandy modeler, or just use it as is if you like the way it works.

Tandy does have a lifter. It's called the undercut beveler. B892 is the number. Just sayin', not promoting one tool over another.
