Wood Stain On Leather

I have several partial qt. cans of various colors of MinWax stain from different jobs from the past. I have tried some of it on small scrap pieces of vegitan and seems to work out really nice. Great for antiquing. Has anyone had any experience with this type of stain and is there any cons to using it?

Thanks for your reply. Your test was very informative and helpful. Luckly I have a Tandy's close by so I will be staying with regulat leather dye.
