Or do you just go part of the way up with the first layer of ground seat?? So you ever put the saddle seat itself to the rawhide of the cantle face?? How important is it to cover all the nails in the rawhide of the cantle face with ground seat leather?? Ok so it was actually 4 questions. kseidel Report post Posted March 3, 2010 I always run my groundseat leather to the top of the cantle when putting in a hard seat. I want to make the foundation under the hard seat as smooth as possible. The nails in the tree leave a depression that is magnified under the final seat leather. I can also correct any discrepancies in the shape of the cantle. If you are doing a full padded seat, it is not as critical. Keith Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I've seen it done before but I guess I'll need to go ahead and put in a piece up the cantle and blend it into the ground seat that is already in place.
