Rayban Report post Posted March 10, 2010 (edited) Mercury Model M-120-1 has been recently reconditioned by a sales and service sewing machine company near Toledo Ohio. I bought it last Spring thinking I was going to make shorter work of the projects I do, but it turns out I end up hand stitching everything I do, so this machine must go. Mercury is an off-shore copy of some model of Singer, which one, I'm not sure. Some of you may be able to tell by looking at it. The table and machine were new when I bought it, the machine is in excellent shape and works great. I just don't use it enough to justify owning it. $700 firm, p/u only in SE Michigan. Any questions, or want more pictures, please email me at rickg48@bex.net. Edited March 10, 2010 by Rayban

BWL Report post Posted November 28, 2010 (edited) Rayban, Looks like a good machine. Have you used it. If it's a good machine why are you sewing by hand ? I am interested. BWL Edited November 28, 2010 by Barbed Wire Leather
BondoBobCustomSaddles Report post Posted November 28, 2010 Rayban, Couple of questions, 1) how deep is the throat, 12" or 16"? 2) Is it a "dog feed" only or both "dogfeed" and needle feed combined? Bondo Bob
Rayban Report post Posted November 28, 2010 Barbed Wire....it's a good machine, I guess I just don't have the patience to master it. We just don't get along. I have messed up several projects after stamping, dying, etc....then to have the machine get away from me, stitching jumps the groove. another piece for the scrap bin. Just too frustrating for me, and I feel I have so much more control by hand-stitching. Since I'm more of a hobby guy, I'm not all that concerned with getting lots done fast Again, it's not the machine, just pilot error.....after error..... Bondo, the throat actually measures 10 1/2", and it's dog feed only.
BondoBobCustomSaddles Report post Posted November 29, 2010 Rayban, a few of more questions. Does it have a bobbin winder?, Does it have a reverse? Does it have a means of controling speed (like adjustable pulleys or whatever), and by the way what is the speed in stitches per inch? and finally, how thick will it stitch? You do have my interest. The same machine as the Ferdco 440 pro. It will sew 1\2 inch of material Edited November 29, 2010 by busted

The pressure on the foot pedal can slow it down/ speed it up, and it's one of the things I haven't mastered....I'm not sure what speed it is rated at. Bondo, you're only an hour from here, you're welcomed to come over to try it out.

Bondo, you're only an hour from here, you're welcomed to come over to try it out. I put a speed reducer on mine it runs around 350 spm. I found some 7x1 22 needles that is around a 160 size it will sew #92 thread up to a #3 cord with the size 25 needle installed. It does a really nice stitch at 5 spi with 277 or 207 thread. It does not like thin material 2 or 3 ounce. I tried to sew a purse from elk skin (3-4oz.) no way wadded it up It easily sews 2 pieces of 12 oz. It will not do 3 layers of 12 oz. I hope that was helpful.
