Members cjowett Posted March 22, 2010 Members Report Posted March 22, 2010 Can anyone suggest exercises to help develop skills with a swivel knife? My stamping is progressing fairly decently but my knife cuts suck. I have a lot of trouble following the lines I've transfered and trouble keeping the knife perpendicular. Quote
Ambassador Luke Hatley Posted March 22, 2010 Ambassador Report Posted March 22, 2010 get the book "CRAFT TOOLS TECH TIPS" AT TANDY. IT WILL BE VERY BENIFICAL TO YOU. Quote
Hilly Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 The Leather Crafters and Saddlers Journal has exercises called "swivel knife finesse" in each issue. Paul Burnett offers lots of little exercises on using your swivel knife. Quote
Members Kevin Posted March 24, 2010 Members Report Posted March 24, 2010 In my lazy manner, I use alphabet Craftaids for exercise. No muss no fuss, small and not very easy, your work goes into cutting, not finding a pattern and having to trace it out. Kevin Quote
TomSwede Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 I do a small practice when I haven't carved for a while. I trace a straight line and an S curved line and do them alternating until I feel like I got the feeling back in my hand ( no under/overcutting and smooth s-curves). Tom Quote

Members Grizz Posted April 2, 2010 Members Report Posted April 2, 2010 Try cutting out S shapes, C shapes and circles, getting progressively smaller. Quote
