emilerwin Report post Posted April 28, 2010 Hello All, I am looking at a contract that would require a purchase of about 4000-6000 square feet of 5-7oz. leather. I have purchased from Weaver and Siegel in the past but no more than 300 sq ft at one time at around $2.50-$3.00 per ft. This will require a special order. I am curious to know if anyone knows of a way to go directly to the tannery to save cost. I have searched for tanneries but not really found much. I have looked at Horween and I am impressed with their product and capabilities but the cost is prohibitive. Thanks for your advice. Best Regards, Emil
Denster Report post Posted April 28, 2010 At that quantity go direct with the Tannery. Give Hermann Oak a call.

emilerwin Report post Posted April 30, 2010 Thanks. I contacted both companies but it seems like they dont produce what I am looking for. I spoke to Siegel Leather today and they said I could do a special order for a larger amount but it would actually be MORE expensive. This is due to the fact that they buy tannery overruns and pass the savings on. I am not sure whether or not they are using a domestic tannery or otherwise. If I am going to be placing special orders, I would like to cut out the middle man if possible. I am happy to give Siegel my business for odd lot leathers. I just need to find out where these tanneries are. I located some in Mexico, but have no idea where to begin with that. Ill let you guys know how it goes. Thanks, Emil
