Members panch0 Posted May 6, 2010 Members Report Posted May 6, 2010 (edited) Hello, I have a leather store near by that specializes in leather boots, saddles, etc.... They have a box of leather scraps at 4.99 a lb. These have some sort of paint or other material on the inner side of the leather. I make knives and make the sheaths for them. I was wondering what this backing material it is and if it is good to work with for sheaths and rifle butt covers. Thanks! Edited May 6, 2010 by panch0 Quote

From what I've heard and read, you may want to stay away from this type of treated leather if you're working with knives or guns. I think this type of leather is more apt to corrode metal after a preiod of time. I could be wrong though, hopefully someone with a bit more experience will chime in Quote
