Members trikegeoff Posted May 13, 2010 Members Report Posted May 13, 2010 hello all im in the middle of designing a carving pattern for a project im working on. it is a wild pigs/boars head that will eventually be used on a back quiver. my problem is im not sure how to put hair on my creature. is there a tool dedicated to this purpose? or is there a special technique using a knife that will give me the effect that im after? i am looking forward to your responses and id love to see some samples of work done using your technique. thank you geoff Quote

Contributing Member ClayB Posted May 14, 2010 Contributing Member Report Posted May 14, 2010 There are a lot of ways to create hair texture. It depends on what kind of look you are going for. Tandy's hair blade in a swivel knife is an easy way to create hair. X-acto knife blades in a handle of some sort can be used in a similar manner and will make deeper impressions than the Tandy hair blade. Some people just draw hair texture onto a carving with a needle or sewing awl, or even a modeling tool. Whatever you decide to use, the important thing in making your hair look realitic is to make sure you pay attention to hair direction and length. Study pictures of your subject to get an idea of what the hair should look like. Quote
