Members dawn Posted May 13, 2010 Members Report Posted May 13, 2010 Hi everyone. My sister has recently purchased a miniture horse and she was wondering if I could make her a halter for him. I have never done this before but would love to give it a try. Could anyone point me in the right direction on some good resources on Halter making . if i can tackle that the next project is making him a harness. I have been very interested in making horse tack just haven't had the incentive till now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Quote
Members roo4u Posted May 13, 2010 Members Report Posted May 13, 2010 what kind of halter are you looking to make....i have made the arab style halters that are so popular with the mini folks...braided quite a few out of paracord. i have tied several rope halters for my minis just like what the big guys wear only with much smaller rope...look so cute on a stockhorse type mini....i also made a couple of leather stable halters....use foal sized hardware. mini heads vary so much i recommend you just measure the various parts and make accordingly. although i got a general idea by looking at the measurements on a site that sold the arab style they had noseband measurements just google it and youll find something. Members mulepackin Posted May 14, 2010 Members Report Posted May 14, 2010 Here are a few links for rope halters with a fiador knot. They can be scaled to fit any horse large or small: http://www.gaitedhorses.net/Articles/RopeHalter/RopeHalter.html http://www.naturalhorsesupply.com/tiehalter.shtml Quote
Members dawn Posted May 14, 2010 Author Members Report Posted May 14, 2010 thanks for your suggestions. She wants just a basic halter but would prefer a leather one of a nylon one. She doesn't show him he is strictly for company. she does want to teach him to pull a buggy. So she is also hinting for me to make him a harness too. But thanks again i will do some research. Quote
