This machine came up for sale in my area, the only info I have is EW115053, and that it's for heavy leather. If I buy this will I be able to get needles or parts? I tried looking up the number, but they only go to EW100xxx. I will be using it mostly for sewing custom book slip covers with 6-8 oz veg-tan. They are asking $750cdn, or approx 700usd.

The machine looks fairly new (in the old iron sense) but it worries me that the belt is not attached. Run it off before you buy. Then there's the price, about $300 too high. You would have to put a variable speed motor and a speed reducer to make it a worth while endeavor. Note that reverse turns you on, this one doesn't have it. The machine is a 153 or variant but you should check the plate to see if it as a w101, w102, or w103, the 101 being the best of the bunch for leatherwork, hope it is not a 102. 103 is like the 101 and the 102 combined, sort of. I wouldn't expect to pay more than $400 for the 101 machine.

I had one of these machines at one time. They are very good machines. Parts are available. It should sew 3/8th's inch material.

Yes, a speed reducer is recommended it should get the speed down around 800 spm. I usually make my own speed reducers if I

need done.

Art is correct about the price.

This machine will sew light leather and I say this because the lift of the foot is not very high. I use mind for small pouches and some cases that are not to thick. A speed reducer would be a welcome item. What I like about mind is the foot and the needle sits very close to the end and makes for sewing cases and making the turns alot easier.
