Shorts Report post Posted April 23, 2008 (edited) I recieved my shipments of a few dyes and finishes yesterday and I'm toying with them today. I noticed with the Tan Kote, it's pretty thick stuff. I like the way it dries hard, but I don't like the way the finish can come out uneven and you can see the application strokes, even after a good horsehair buffing. Is ther a way to cut Tan Kote a little bit to make it easier to apply and less chance of drying to see strokes? It's sticker than Satin Sheen, and finishes with a shinier finish Iduh, "satin") lol but I like the way it dries hard. Ideas? I also have an airbrush and I'm not afraid to use it! Randy Cornelius Report post Posted April 23, 2008 Here is what an old saddle maker told me years ago. #1 harness dressing cut in half with water = Tan Kote Tan Kote cut 1/2 with water = bag kote So the answer is yes you can delute it. Try appling it with a 4 x 4 scrap of wool. Use a circular motion to apply to the leather working out into a bigger area as you go. A circular motion will stop a lot of the streeking you will get by going back and forth. Don't be afraid to go over it with a second coat to even out any spots. Good luck with your project Randy
Shorts Report post Posted April 24, 2008 Thanks for the tip Randy, it's working. I still need some practice but it's getting better!
