Members Mike Posted November 14, 2010 Members Report Posted November 14, 2010 Just curious. I used to use it glued to mat boards that I would rubber cement leather to while carving. I believe some used it as a stiffener. Mike Quote
Ambassador leatheroo Posted November 14, 2010 Ambassador Report Posted November 14, 2010 i use it for patterns that i use alot. Cut out the shape that is needed and then store until needed again! Quote
Members BIGGUNDOCTOR Posted November 15, 2010 Members Report Posted November 15, 2010 With the price of silver, most places send the old x-rays out to reclaim the silver. My scout troop moved 10 tons of X-rays for a company that was sending them out for reclamation. Quote
Moderator bruce johnson Posted November 15, 2010 Moderator Report Posted November 15, 2010 I use it for stiffeners in thin or small things like business card cases with inlays. I glue my inlay material to an oversized piece of film and then sew around the cut out through the materials and Xray film. It works particularly well as a backer if you plug your inlays and have a very thin lining. Quote
Members budd4766 Posted November 15, 2010 Members Report Posted November 15, 2010 I tried it a few times. Wasn't impressed. I do better just taping the back of my stuff with packing tape. Quote
Members buckeroo1 Posted November 15, 2010 Members Report Posted November 15, 2010 I couldn't live without it!!!!! I guess I am just ol' school! Whenever I am tooling items such as wallets, portfolios or checkbook covers I get the x-ray film.......slop some rubber cement on it AND the leather I will be tooling on (I "case" my leather prior to gluing) and just let my artistic talents run wild (smile)!! When my item is complete....I don't have a bunch of masking tape to peel off in total frustration!! Because I do a lot of Sheridan style....it just slides on my tooling block so-o-o-o much easier. Any 'residue' from the rubber cement is minimal.....and is usuall backed anyway. So....if you are asking your question to find out if anyone else uses it, put me at the top of your list. If you asked the question to find out if anyone uses it and you have some to give-away or sell, then put me at the top of that list also....ok? My email address is bkronnick@yahoo.com. Hope I answered your question.....take care and keep toolin' !!! Buckeroo1 Quote
