First Holsters - Ruger & Glock

Recommended Posts

Thanks to the many fine people on here that are willing to share their talent and expertise I was able to complete these first two holsters. The first holster was for the Ruger, an "avenger" style. After that holster I was hooked. The second one was for my Glock 21, and went with the pancake style. I used 8-9 oz HO for the holsters. I still have so much to learn and I appreciate those who have helped me to get started.

Very nice workmanship. Edges look perfect.

The only critique I might offer is on the "wing" of the Avenger-style holster. I try to avoid sharp corners for comfort reasons, also to reduce opportunities for the cover garment to hang up on the holster or handgun. Also, as built, the leather extends up in close proximity to the grip of the pistol which can reduce accessibility. I like to keep that area open as much as possible so that a firm grip can easily be obtained during the draw. Radiusing that area (as you have done on your pancake-style holster) will accomplish all of these goals.

Best regards.

Hey great work! How does the pancake feel. One thing you may want to form more on a curve than flat. I can see the Particle influence on the avenger. I do like the two tone color.

Thanks Lobo.....I need to thank Hidepounder for his instructions on the edges, they were very helpful indeed. Thanks for the positive comments too, it is great to get feedback from those who have more experience than I, it is very encouraging indeed.

The video that Particle posted was what really got me into this leatherworking venture. He was also very helpful when I had emailed him to ask more specfic questions. I appreciated the positive feed back and encouragemnet !!!

I agree, particle was such a big help too. I must have watched his video a 100 times. Nice definition on your holster too, one thing about the 8-9 ounce leather is that is is a real challenge to get detail definition. Denster on here has so great tips that I am in the process of trying. As far as the edges go, all the credit goes to Hidepounder and his awesome instructions that he has so graciously posted on here. Keep up the good work and post some more of your projects. And yes I sewed these by hand, still learning as I go.
