Okmulgee Saddle School

Hello,

I am currently looking into the Okmulgee saddle and boot making program at the Green county Tech center. I was wondering if anyone had and Review or opinions on this place. Everything is appreciated, good or bad.

I have had contact with several former students of the program at GTC. It is like any other school, and will give you a good basic knowledge of boot and saddle making. The main factor is YOUR desire and ability to learn and be good at the crafts. Some of the former students were pretty good at the work and others were only fair at crafting items! So if you go to school there, learn all you can and practice, practice, practice!

My brother's neighbor went there and I think it's a whole semester, it's not just a couple week course. He turned out some nice stuff, and his final was a saddle, he is making leather covered ticket books for Tulsa P.D. now.

I think if you take the complete course, it is a two year study program. It also includes some business type courses with it. They have a website with all the info. I think it is GREEN COUNTRY TECHNOLOGY CENTER and should lead you on to the course you are looking for! Good Luck

So, I guess my question is, would you say this is a good course to go to? Is the program as a whole good for someone really wanting to get started and is it worth the time?

As far as I know the instructors and instructions are first class. It is the only school that I know of that teaches complete training in both boot and saddle construction. The work I have seen from there appears to be of good quality. Once again, it will depend on how bad you want to learn, and your dedication to the crafts. It is the closest thing I know of to an apprenticeship type training, but you can advance at a more rapid rate if you are willing to apply yourself! Find their website and there are some links to some of the former students websites. Get in touch with them and ask their honest opinions. Good luck in your endeavors.

TR22, being nearly computer illiterate, I don't know how to send you the link for the saddle school! Simply type in your search bar, GCTC Boot Saddle Main Page , and this should get you to the schools info all about the saddle and boot course! At the bottom left side of the page is the link to a couple of their former students web sites. Hope this will work for you! Sorry, about the old illiterate saddlemaker on this end!!!! LOL
