Members Rayban Posted December 31, 2010 Members Report Posted December 31, 2010 (edited) After about 5 years of paying $20 plus shipping for 8oz of my favorite leather finish, I thought I would look into what my local retail outlet had to offer. I bought a 4oz. bottle of three of the Feibings products available there, and must say I was pleased with all three. I can see I need practice and experience with my application methods, so I'd like to hear what you all do in applying these three. From left to rt. Resolene, Tan Kote, Leather Balm/ Atom wax. I used a damp sponge for each. Resolene and Tan Kote left more streaking than Balm, but that will improve with experience I'm sure. I can live with either or. Note: I dyed a strap of leather, then cut it into 3 pieces to finish....notice three different shades of the same dye. Edited December 31, 2010 by Rayban Quote
Moderator Wizcrafts Posted December 31, 2010 Moderator Report Posted December 31, 2010 Rayban; Try Angelus Acrylic Finisher. It is available from shoe repair suppliers, like this one. Quote
Members RobDude30 Posted January 2, 2011 Members Report Posted January 2, 2011 I like Resolene and use it on all of my projects. The method I use to apply it is with a lightly damp sponge and a tiny amount of Resolene. I apply the Resolene in this manner in several very light coats, allowing time to dry in between coats. Rub over it lightly with the damp sponge and you won't have any streaking. This gives a very good finish that is not too plastic-looking nor too shiny, IMHO. I usually also rub on a coat of Kiwi neutral shoe polish on top, after the Resolene has dried completely, to give it even more of a mellow glow. Works good for me. Quote
