BAD HIDE Report post Posted January 11, 2011 Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of any books or pattern packs that have old styles of briefcases, backpacks, messenger bags and the like? I have the Al Stohlman series, but there's a few classic styles of duffels and bags that I see all over, but I don't have any good patterns for them. Are there any patterns out there, or does everyone come up with their own versions, and if they do, is anyone willing to share? I haven't been doing this very long, but I'm starting to get tempted myself to put together a few patterns of what I do, simply because there's so little out there for noobs like me. [/quote Hi Timestamp, Other than the three volume Al Stohlman series on making Leather Cases and looking around at the various makers sites to see what they are up to, it is pretty much up to your own creativity to whip up things like that. You might find individual items in other leather crafting books but hardly worth the effort or expense of building up a library to get a few patterns. Ellen Report post Posted January 28, 2011 While I don't know about books on bag making, other than Valery Michaels' and Al Stolhman', it seems that you can make own pattern easily after looking at the photo of the item, and customize it. Standard measurements for such bags could be found on mass-produced bag websites and here at bag makers forum. What may help to imitate thickness of leather while assembling parts of pattern together, using the crafts foam sheets from dollar store, craft supply or discount department store. RoaringBull Report post Posted January 31, 2011 I draw my patterns out on Powerpoint and when I think I have it right, print it out and cut it out...If I can make a bag pattern work with paper, I will transfer that to some old thick file folders that I found and use that for the pattern forever.
