Wizcrafts Report post Posted February 5, 2011 If at all possible, go to a sewing machine dealer and try out various brands first. Use your leather and the same thread. You will find one best suited to you, for the work you intend to do. If money is no object, go for a new Adler 205. Otherwise, go for a Cowboy 205-370 clone. They are sold by Toledo Industrial Sewing Machines, in Toledo, Ohio. Bob Kovar is the owner and his toll free number is: 866-362-7397. You are close enough to drive to Toledo and see them for yourself. Carry one back and save on shipping. Just pay Duty, GST and PST. Alternately, check out a Cobra Class 4 (Highland, California), or a Techsew 5100 (Montreal).

Kevin Report post Posted February 6, 2011 I use a 205-370 and it has only had one spring break in the 10 or so years we've had it. When we bought that machine, I think the only choice was that or a Ferdco and I had the impression that the Adler was the way to go. Now there are so many choices and the clones sound to be pretty good, I would consider the Chinese machines. There seem to be so many more foot and throat plate options that are affordable. Good luck, Kevin
oldtimer Report post Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) I have an Adler 205-374 with a needle positioning motor, and I wouldn´t trade it for anything. Weaver Leather sells a set of harness makers presser feet for 28:50 a piece, and I think that is very cheap. Thay also have throat plates and all you need for the machine, Adler is genuine European quality, and it will serve you well. / Knut Edited February 6, 2011 by oldtimer
