Hello all,

Not being a native English speaker I'm having a spot of trouble finding the correct English name for the type of leather in the attached photograph. Over here, in the Netherlands, we call it "volnerf tuigleer". Literally it translates to "full grain harness leather". The name itself already implies it's mostly used for the harnesses on horses and such. It's usually rather thick, ranging from 1 to 4 mm ( 0.04 -0.15 inch), rather stiff and made from cows.

I am very much inclined to think that latigo is the correct name for this stuff, but hopefully you can shed a bit more light on this...

Looks like harness leather to me. Latigo is generally a burgundy color.

Thanks for your reply. When I do an image search on google for latigo however I get quite a few colors, though most seem to be either tan, black or burgundy indeed.

When I do a search for "harness leather" I get mostly black and brown and quite a bit of SM related pictures as well..

Perhaps the two names are mutual interchangeable?

Could be English Bridle Leather.

Maybe a veggie tanned cowhide. About a 4 or 5oz cut.
