NextStop Report post Posted February 16, 2011 I made a book cover that I dyed earlier today. I was looking for a VERY dark Navy Blue. I used the darkest Dark Blue alcohol based dye I could find and am very disappointed with the result. It turned out about the same color as the bar on the top of the Windows Explorer screen - a bright, medium blue. The thought occurred to me that I might get some Midnight Rit blue dye, or their equiv, and disolve some into the dye I already have. Has anyone done this or have any experience (or suggestion) that would get me to my desired result? Thanks.
electrathon Report post Posted February 16, 2011 I can't answer your question about the Rit dye but have a solution for you. Mix some black in with your blue, it will be more of a navy blue then. Practice on something you can ruin. Aaron
roo4u Report post Posted February 17, 2011 yes you can mix it...if you were making your own spirit dye with rit you dissolve it in boiling water, just enough to dissolve most of dye, then you would mix it with denatured alcohol til you got the shade you wanted. so just dissolve the dye and then mix it with your other dye to get the shade you want. when im mixing colors i use a syringe and add the second color to my base color in measured amounts and test for color after each add....if you keep track of the amounts of each color used then you can easily make the same colors over and over.
