Time To Jump

I got the videos. Read the books. Read and looked at everything possible on the internet. Found some poor soul to fund the first 5 saddles, maybe 10. It is time to order the tree. The first 5 -10 will be going to trail riding deal on a time share resort. They have about a dozen medium to large framed quarter horses that are kept in decent flesh. What would everyone recommend for trees? Dimensions, makers, bars, etc.... Feel free Rod and Denise. They want quality materials. Workmanship may be a little iffy, but we are hoping to overcome that with quality materials.

Fit wise, get a bit of a variety - at least two types. We know what we would recommend for our trees (some 4 x 90 and some 4 1/4 x 93), but since every tree maker does things differently, you probably want to talk more with whoever will be supplying you. Fork type - what do they want? Swell fork or slick fork? We would probably recommend not too wide a swell if they want a swell fork (13" maximum). They don't need the weight or the width. A lower horn would be a good idea too. Tall horns can get caught on clothing when people aren't used to getting on and off. Not too tall a cantle - 4" is a nice average height. Too tall is harder to get your leg over if you aren't used to mounting a horse. Moderate width to the cantle too - 12 to 12 1/2". These are just our suggestions to start with. Have fun!

So these will be the first saddles you have built???? Just a suggestion, but you might want to at least get one off for yourself to work the bugs out before selling a bunch. But Maybe I misunderstood. Chris
