Members mcn Posted March 20, 2011 Members Report Posted March 20, 2011 Hi I am going to start making my first set of holsters. They are for mounted shooting and the opening of the holster is flared out or molded so it is easier to re holster. I could use some help with the adding of a lining leather to a molded holster. dirtclod Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 I line them before doing any molding. Not sure how your going to get the lining in one after molding espically if you much molding. Quote I'm old enough to know that i don't know everything.
Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted March 20, 2011 Contributing Member Report Posted March 20, 2011 Glue the pieces of leather together with the flesh sides facing each other before you form/mold the holster. You can do this easily by working up your pattern and just reversing it to the "other" side. Members mcn Posted March 24, 2011 Author Members Report Posted March 24, 2011 Thanks for the replys I was worried that the lining would wrinkle or not allow the tooled side to be molded properly if I tried that. Great to have access all this experience now adays. Quote

Use Weldwood contact cement (follow the directions on the can) to put the two pieces together, . . . then treat them as though it was just one piece of leather. Remember though, . . . after you have tooled the holster, . . . you need to be very careful about what ever molding you try to do. You can very easily ruin a whole afternoon of tooling by trying to mold it closely to the handgun. Tooling and closely defined molding for me are almost mutually disqualifying: in other words you can have a real good job of one, . . . but only without the other.
