Members ct701996 Posted March 22, 2011 Author Members Report Posted March 22, 2011 These are the rest of the pics, i will load burner pics later Quote
Members ct701996 Posted March 22, 2011 Author Members Report Posted March 22, 2011 I normally use rawhide burners on my rawhide hondas, but recently i have been using plastic burners, Plastic burners are really the way to go, you get the weight of a rawhide honda with the speed of a plastic burner, and when the honda gets wet it doesnt get so sticky and slow, please tell me whatcha think Quote
Members megabit Posted March 22, 2011 Members Report Posted March 22, 2011 :specool: :clapping: Neat I like it. Isn't it hard to get the dowel through the center after the knots are tied? Quote
Members ct701996 Posted March 22, 2011 Author Members Report Posted March 22, 2011 (edited) no its not too bad, i have a long tapered spike i use, and i usually can get it all the way through, then i take out the spike and put in my 3/8 plug, the spike is a little larger than 3/8 so i have to hurry and put in the plug but i can usually get it done. i think the knots look better if you tie them before you put the plug in Edited March 22, 2011 by ct701996 Quote
Members rgerbitz Posted March 23, 2011 Members Report Posted March 23, 2011 Total awsomeness. Thank you for taking the time to put this up. Where do you get the plastic burners? Rob Quote
Members ct701996 Posted March 23, 2011 Author Members Report Posted March 23, 2011 i bought them at my local feed store, i think some of the big chain stores like big r have them and i know buckaroobusinesses.com carries them Quote
Members ljensen Posted March 23, 2011 Members Report Posted March 23, 2011 Thanks for sharing your steps. It is great to see how many different people have. On your initial loop, are you twisting the strands to make the loop section or did I miss something? Also I like the speed burner idea cause I dislike putting on the rawhide burners. Quote
Members ct701996 Posted March 24, 2011 Author Members Report Posted March 24, 2011 right away i find the middle of the strings, then i do a slit braid right in the middle of them, you could also braid 4 strands in the middle Quote
Members Aggiebraider Posted March 24, 2011 Members Report Posted March 24, 2011 I like how you did the slit braid (or blood knot as some people know it) for the initial loop. I think that would close up a bit better than even doing the 4 strand braid since it is much flatter CW Quote
Members ct701996 Posted March 24, 2011 Author Members Report Posted March 24, 2011 yeah i think your right, i doesnt look too bad either Quote
Members roo4u Posted March 24, 2011 Members Report Posted March 24, 2011 split braiding like that is the way bruce grant shows how to do them in his books..... Quote
Members ct701996 Posted March 24, 2011 Author Members Report Posted March 24, 2011 yeah some old fellow showed me how to make these, ive never really used bruce grants book for braiding, too hard to understand Quote
Members ljensen Posted March 24, 2011 Members Report Posted March 24, 2011 Alright, after looking at the pictures again, I see the slit braid. Quote
Members ecorrigan Posted February 27, 2014 Members Report Posted February 27, 2014 Okay, I might catch flak for resurrecting an old thread, but can you give me a few more details on this process? I want to start braiding my first rawhide honda and have plenty of material to work with, but as a beginner, I can't quite make out how you started it in your pictures. I'm instructionally challenged!! Quote
Members bucksnort Posted February 28, 2014 Members Report Posted February 28, 2014 Great job, thanks for taking the time to do that. I've been trying a few speed burners & they seem pretty popular. Buck Quote
Members Ensz saddlery Posted November 24, 2015 Members Report Posted November 24, 2015 Have you ever made any rawhide burners? How do you make. I have trouble making the rawhide get tite around the honda. Quote
Members bucksnort Posted December 14, 2015 Members Report Posted December 14, 2015 Size it to fit around the hondoo then notch the ends in a v pattern so the part inside is narrower than the part you are laceing. Quote
