Kate Kate, Thank you! I basically would need all the info I could get. From the set up, making sure I am threading the machine properly, to help adjusting tention to get a proper stitch. I have the machine set up and have tried to stitch some leather but the loops on the bottom are not getting tight and are getting stuck on the bobbin. I will try to take a few picture and attach them to this post. Ask them to teach you about the machine ( not shoe repair as they may not want to create a competitor) offer them some compensation for time and effort. Ferg Report post Posted July 28, 2011 I know absolutely nothing about your particular machine but, you need help so just maybe a different idea? When I have had the problem you are having it is usually one of about three things. No. 1 Your machine is not threaded correctly No. 2 Your thread has slipped out of place on a sprocket/tensioner, might even down behind the mechanism. No. 3 The tension on the machine is totally out of whack. I would start from ground "Zero" on both top and bottom tension (if the machine has both). Adjust the tension about 1/4 turn on both or leave the bottom alone and do this on top tensioner only. Sew a few stitches, check to see what is happening, another 1/4 turn, sew, check. I became so disgusted when I couldn't get my machine to sew correctly that I finally just took the tensioners to zero and started all over. After fussing and fuming several times I hit the right spot. Wiz has taught me a lot about my machine and others. If I never learn anything else about the Consew I have, there is a "SWEET SPOT" when you hit that you need to do very little adjusting on most thicknesses of leather or layers of leather. ferg I am still working for some help. bdt46 Report post Posted July 28, 2011 I can't really tell by your pictures what the problem is, but Campbell-Randall is right about the first take up roller needs to be threaded on the underside. There is no thread tension plates on a Landis 3. It looks like maybe your needle may not be releasing your top thread as the shuttle passes through the loop. It could be pulling the thread on down and breaking or cutting the thread. Could be the thread locks on the top side are wore out and are not locking the thread to keep it from pulling on down to the bottom side. The shuttle tension could be to tight and holding the thread down. You can loosen the shuttle tension by turning the small screw on the side of the shuttle. Turn it counterclock wise a small bit at a time, carefully! Just a small amount of turn and then try a stitch or two to see if it is helping. Also the bobbin MUST be threaded in straight layers to function properly. Also some machines have a little trouble with the last 1/3 of the thread on the bobbin. Get you a book for the 3 and read all of it and it will help you immensely. Also Campbell-Randall handles some parts for your machine and if you will call them they can talk you through this a lot better than me! I personally have a Landis #1, Landis #3, and a Landis #16, and they are all great old machines. Some parts can be a real problem, and it helps to have a machinist friend! LOL But if you get the old machine going you will be surprised at the pretty stitch it will make, and no threaded needle machine can compare onthick leather items! I did find a book but it has part numbers and treading sequence by part numbers. might as well be in chinese. I will work on it in the next couple days and take better pictures.
