CinLeah Report post Posted May 7, 2011 Hello, I have been lurking around here for a while and this is my first post. My question is If anyone has used the Singer 12w102 in sewing leather. It was used for sewing overalls, duck coats, heavy canvas and horse blankets. My family's company they used it to sew a medical pads that was canvas and nagahyde (sp). I think it will sew chap weight leather, but I want to make sure. Can anyone tell me the maximum thickness it will sew through and I need to find the type of needle, bobbin and thread it will take before I adventure into trying it out. Any information would be great thank you. cinamon
CowboyBob Report post Posted May 7, 2011 It's been a while since I ran one ,but I think it'll handle chap weight material ok using #69 or 92 thread. We probably have the needle but on a machine this old have found out that alot of times people change them for something different & would like to see an old one if you have an extra to mail us. Bob Thanks for the info. I don't have any original needles, my cousin's wife has been using it to sew canvas tarps for dump trucks and has been using a needle for that purpose. Went to a Upholstery supply told them the machine using, and the needles the manual i got off the internet said to use and they gave me a16x63 and 16x87 to try out. Trying to find replacement needles for 128X2,4,16,18 etc. is confusing. What does the 128 stand for and how does it compare to today's needles that are out there. What should a person look for would be helpful. cinamon
