I have been asked to assist an old gentleman with his deceased wife's tools. He is selling them, but has no idea whatsoever of their value.

I would really appreciate as much input as I can about the value of the following:

A set of 160 Doodle Pages

Craftaids (mostly discontinued ones)

MIWL and Leather Craftsman magazines

Taiwan made Ivan tools - no similarity to any tools available today

Craftools USA that resembles miniature versions of the 3D stamps Tandy now sells

Craftools - still the ones that were hand finished

Craftools - the ones that are currently being sold

All the tools have been very well looked after - the person who will be buying them, is getting the find of the year. I just hope I can help the seller to get a fair price and the buyer not to pay too much.

Thanks!

JOhan

as for the price of all the individual tools, I have no clue, but I do know that Tandy is looking for old tools to replace worn out masters that they have been using for quite a few years. if he is interested in bettering the quality of tools out on the market, please pass this piece of info on to him and maybe he will get in contact with Tandy and theycan decide what they would like to do. anyways, thats my 2 bits.

Duke, That project of Tandy's went so well, that they are well in to producing tools now on new masters.

A friend of mine who buys old tools & craft items and resells has great luck with items like discontinued craftaids and doodle pages putting them up in "sets" on ebay for bid. He normally gets a good deal more than their estimated "worth" from collectors outbidding each other.

Does the following sound unreasonable: (high or low)

A set of 160 Doodle Pages - .50c each

Craftaids (mostly discontinued ones) - $2 each

MIWL and Leather Craftsman magazines - $3 each

Taiwan made Ivan tools - no similarity to any tools available today - $3 each

Craftools USA that resembles miniature versions of the 3D stamps Tandy now sells - $5 each

Craftools - still the ones that were hand finished - $4 each

Craftools - the ones that are currently being sold - $2 each

Would you be willing to pay this a) if you had to take the whole batch and it would total up to a few hundred dollars or B) if you could pic through for those you want only?

Johan,

Those prices seem very reasonable, and are probably on the low side.

The doodle pages and craftaids are all low by quite a bit. The magazines are generally going about $5. The tools are reasonable to a little low.

Ben

I think you will find that the particular tools make a lot of difference in price - for example, smooth pear shaders and smooth bevelers are common and sell for maybe a buck or two. Even pre-letter common tools may only bring $2 each. But the more rare tools, baskets and geometric tools can sell for $4-$10 each. I bought a bunch of older craftools (130 or so) about 6 months ago and pulled out the ones I want. I have sold about half and am averaging about $4 each, but the range has been from about $1.75 up to probably $8-10 for a couple of them.

You might watch ebay for a few weeks to help you price them... good luck.

JOhan,

My mother in law has been selling her doodle pages for $.50 each and craftaids from $5 to $10 depending on size. The older tools (likely what you are calling hand-finished) should probably go for double that, and some might be worth more.
