Members JDM Posted July 17, 2011 Members Report Posted July 17, 2011 (edited) Hi, My dad gave me a spool of waxed thread about 15 years ago. Being a newbie to leatherworking and sewing in general, I'm wondering what it is. Poly, nylon? Measuring with a dial caliper , the OD is about .015". It is 3 strands. The attached picture shows a burned end. My primary interest is hand stitching leather in the 6-10 ounce range to make holsters, mag pouches, knife sheaths and similar things. What is the thread I have, and what is it commonly used for? Edited July 17, 2011 by JDM Quote
KAYAK45 Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 Why care! The only reason to identify this thread is to get more of it. Right next to impossible Just use it and then buy what you want for the next project. Quote
Members Leather Guru Posted July 19, 2011 Members Report Posted July 19, 2011 Hello brother, The best thread ( nylon ) for sewxing by hand would be braided and you can also get it prewaxed or not in which case you can use some bees wax and wax it yourself Look on the web for www.serafil.de Quote
