JDM Report post Posted July 17, 2011 (edited) Hi, My dad gave me a spool of waxed thread about 15 years ago. Being a newbie to leatherworking and sewing in general, I'm wondering what it is. Poly, nylon? Measuring with a dial caliper , the OD is about .015". It is 3 strands. The attached picture shows a burned end. My primary interest is hand stitching leather in the 6-10 ounce range to make holsters, mag pouches, knife sheaths and similar things. What is the thread I have, and what is it commonly used for?
