It was cut with the lasers- everything from the writing to the shape, and it measures steel. I know the edges of a hide are erratic, but a little keychain version of this would be handy for leather, wouldn't it? Or maybe someone is already making them? bruce johnson Report post Posted June 4, 2008 Johanna, I have seen those on the wall in shops where guys do shoe and boot repair. I don't know if they were a give-away deal or they bought them. Probably would be good for checking sole leather weight, ot something hard like that. I have one of the little caliper-dial models that works pretty well. I think I got it from TLF. Pkay Report post Posted April 3, 2015 I watched a tannery video on utube and they had a gauge with a dial gauge attached which allowed them to measure about a foot into the hide which would work well. biglew Report post Posted April 4, 2015 i have a couple of the blackriver laser guides... easy to use and a inexpensive choice. These are machinists' tools that measure in thousandths, so use the table from Stohlman's Insider's Guide to Leathercrafting.
