mattsh Report post Posted August 20, 2011 Just finished up this one for a friend at work. Turned out pretty good.have a couple of things to do differently if I make another one. Stitched on my new (to me) Toro 3000. Had to move to cover when I was taking pics hence the reason the lighting is different, and its from my cell phone. I still need to buy a new digital camera. Thanks for looking.
Shooter McGavin Report post Posted August 20, 2011 Looks good. I really like the contrast of the rough out leather with the "normal" leather.
jlaudio29 Report post Posted August 21, 2011 Looks good, nice and clean. What are you doing to treat the rough side so it dosnt bleed die? also what die are you using or is it vingaroon?
mattsh Report post Posted August 22, 2011 For the IWB holsters I like to put the rough out to provide some drag on the clothing and provide a smooth inside so the gun can be drawn a little easier. To treat the rough side I am putting on two coats of leather sheen. I tested it by rubbing it with a white t-shirt to see if I got any dye rub off and I did not, so I am pretty sure it is sealed. The dye is a 50:50 mix of Fiebings Dye UMC Black [not the pro oil dye] and Rubbing Alcohol.
jlaudio29 Report post Posted August 22, 2011 sounds about what i do with making sure the dye dosnt rub off. Interesting about reducing the usmc black. Im not worried about the smooth side being in, i use gum tragcacnth on all my holster so it comes out nice and smooth on the inside, have you ever tried it out? mattsh Report post Posted August 23, 2011 To be honest, I tried it 10 years ago and didnt really like it and have not tried it since. But I have learned a lot since then so maybe I should give it another go.
