Members silkfatblues Posted December 6, 2012 Author Members Report Posted December 6, 2012 thanx a lot here is another fresh seat, finished it last night, late last night... not realy my cup of tea but the customers wishes come first... I just dont like carving leather for seats that have this weird shape, it is impossible to make it from one peice... the other thing that bugged me was dye... couldnt mix the right colour... and the brown peice being so tooled took more dye in and got a lot darker than it was ment to... In the end I am ok with it but we shall se what the customer thinks tomorrow Quote
Members silkfatblues Posted January 4, 2013 Author Members Report Posted January 4, 2013 and another seat based on a tattoo... and my dog Django Quote

Members silkfatblues Posted February 8, 2013 Author Members Report Posted February 8, 2013 @Cybertrasher, be my guest :D borrow, recycle, reproduce and give it your own stamp ideas are free btw cool SG!!! is it Guild or Gibson (or something third)? Quote
Members benlilly1 Posted February 8, 2013 Members Report Posted February 8, 2013 Silk, What lacing technique is on the gecko seat...it looks like an embroidery design but I can't think of the name of the stitch. Quote

That was a Gibson. I was working security at that show and the guitar player handed me his guitar to play at one point I've been meaning to get one of my own, but the thinline tele keeps crying out my name. Silk, What lacing technique is on the gecko seat...it looks like an embroidery design but I can't think of the name of the stitch. I'll let Silk verify, but it looks like a basic blanket stitch to me. I only know that because my wife keeps on making blankets for friends that have babies and I have to see it all the time. Quote
Members silkfatblues Posted February 10, 2013 Author Members Report Posted February 10, 2013 @benlilly i realy don't know the name of that stich... i just did what came to my mind first ) but I think Cybertrasher is right, I do know some blankets have their edges finished like that... @cybertrasher the thinline rocks! friend has one... I use strat mostly and Gibson LP deluxe sometimes... cheers, Silk Quote
Members Cyberthrasher Posted February 10, 2013 Members Report Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) @cybertrasher the thinline rocks! friend has one... I use strat mostly and Gibson LP deluxe sometimes... cheers, Silk Me too. Tele's the main thing I'm missing (and SG and V and....). I have a handful of strats. But, I'm a big Jonny Lang and Tab Benoit fan, so I've been really wanting a thinline with a P-90 in the center . I'll have to send you a family photo on FB or something. There's lots of tutorials on the blanket stitch that show how to do it, either video or pictures. It's a pretty easy stitch that looks cool like this. My question that I've been meaning to ask is what are you using to string these ones up? Looks more like a cord than lace. Edited February 10, 2013 by Cyberthrasher Quote
Members silkfatblues Posted February 11, 2013 Author Members Report Posted February 11, 2013 the lace realy is a leather lace but realy thick (around 2,5 mm) and sturdy, so it is not easy to do more complicated lacing with that lace... but a good thing is it is hard to brake... the lace has a round cut and that is why it looks more like a cord than a lace... I get it from italy and I must say it is much better and still cheaper than that stinky kangaroo lace everybody love so much )) but that is just my point of view No problem, you can find me on FB, try Silvio Loncaric Silkfatblues, I want to see ) I used to have a tele, les paul and a strat and the pic was called THE HOLLY TRINITY :D I'll find it somehow... I know, you were one of my first overseas likes I'll have to try to find something like that lace to try out. I love roo for the different braids, but I can see using some good round stuff for the cross stitching and stuff like that. This last seat just makes me angry!! I really need to work on that style. It's so clean and sexy!! Got any pictures of the underside? Quote
Members silkfatblues Posted February 11, 2013 Author Members Report Posted February 11, 2013 sorry no underside pics, I delivered the seat this morning... but nothing special, just folded leather... sometimes I use Cordura to cover the whole surface on the underside (on this type of seats)... my next task is finding some cool paints and dyes for leather... I want to learn how to make those colour tooled images back to drawing board Quote
Members silkfatblues Posted February 22, 2013 Author Members Report Posted February 22, 2013 Todays work, instagram again... A seat for a vintage Moto Guzzi. I am angry at myself for not taking the "before" pic and the whole proces... Sorry guys.. Quote

Yes, we're angry too It's a great job as always!! I'm actually thinking about a camera mounted above my workspace to take random photos here and there so I can actually get shots of ME doing the work, since nobody in my house is willing to work a decent camera for me. I'll do that soon Quote
Members Cyberthrasher Posted February 22, 2013 Members Report Posted February 22, 2013 I got the idea when I found out a current customer is taking all of the progress pictures I'm sending her and composing a slide-show for her son who's getting the guitar strap for his birthday (presented at one of their concerts at the Fender Center). Made me really wish I had more photos of me working!! Quote
