shtoink Report post Posted February 24, 2013 I can't help but to be amazed at the flexibility and versatility of your talent. From where I sit, it seems to border on limitless. I am angry at myself for not taking the "before" pic and the whole process... Sorry guys... I totally understand. I find myself into a project and completely forget to take the time to get any photos of the progress. I get into a zone and loose track of everything else, it seems. It's not always a project that's planned either, sometimes it's a repair job that ends up taking a particularly clever solution to fix, but might not ever be seen when finished. I'm actually thinking about a camera mounted above my workspace to take random photos here and there so I can actually get shots of ME doing the work... This might work. Maybe a decent quality webcam that can be set to snap shots at a set interval or something. Mounting it above the the workspace might be good, but it'd probably be better to do multiple angles simultaneously to get some of the details that my fat head would most likely end up being in the way of a good deal of the time. silkfatblues Report post Posted February 25, 2013 I can't help but to be amazed at the flexibility and versatility of your talent. From where I sit, it seems to border on limitless. I think my secret is when someone says "it can't be done" or "that aint gonna work" or "thats not your job" and so, I get angry and my stubborn head keeps going forward :D Thanx!!!! The zone you mentioned is the most important magical thing that keeps me in love in creative interventions sometimes it doesn't happen and I know I'm not giving all I got, either I'm tired or deconcentrated, but when it's there I can work nights and weekends like it's nothing... It's not healthy like that but my advantage is I can take any day off from work and recharge... Taking pics for a timelapse is actualy very simple... For a HD video you need a photo not bigger than 1080 X 1920 pixels... so if you shoot with a camera with more pixels you need to lower your photo quality and some programs do that for you... what I want to say a pro camera is not a must have for a very cool timelapse... you need a tripod and a triger/timer that you can set to any speed you think is ok... you need 25 pics per second, so it is 1500 pics per a minute... and that shows a lot!! I'll do that as soon as I find a cool enough project Cheers, Silk
silkfatblues Report post Posted February 26, 2013 I have made this seat some time ago an I saw the bike just the other day. This is vintage italian moped Radaelli and it seems it was developed in colaboration with Harley Davidson cause a lot of parts have HD markings... I think it's gonna be a beauty
Cyberthrasher Report post Posted February 26, 2013 It does kind of have an old Aermachhi feel to it, and that definitely looks like a softail oil bag. http://www.theworldofmotorcycles.com/_harley-davidson-m50-scooter-1965.html

Cyberthrasher Report post Posted February 27, 2013 A good friend of mine who was teaching me some chopper basics (I'm NOT a mechanic) had one of those old one's show up in his shop, so that's the only reason it looked familiar to me. Good old AMF - had to put the Harley name on EVERYTHING they made.
silkfatblues Report post Posted March 6, 2013 This is the second seat I ever made 3 years ago I think and a few pics how I renewed it a little bit... Did some more tooling and painted the scull and lettering, then used some sand paper to add more used feel...
Cyberthrasher Report post Posted March 6, 2013 Love that sandpapered look.

Cyberthrasher Report post Posted March 8, 2013 @cyberthrasher I think I'll use it more often, so cool for vintage look... Yeah, I stumbled on it when I was trying to "fix" a bad clear-lac job in the 11th hour of a guitar strap. I figured if it messed it upt, I was already set to start from scratch (which I did). But, I sent the guy the good one and the one I aged with sandpaper and his friends loved the aged one even more. In fact, he contacted me a couple weeks after he got it and told me that I should be offering that as a standard style. Loving the color on that seat!! silkfatblues Report post Posted May 1, 2013 I rebuilt this one for an old DKW motorcycle... hope to get some bike pics soon... The front part was shaped by hand, no tools or pressing machines, just moistured leather and my hands stretching it... few pics of it drying, from iphone and finished

David8386 Report post Posted May 1, 2013 Great seat, what did you use for a background tool on this one? I have noticed it on several projects you have posted but haven't figured it out. Red stitching looks great also. David
silkfatblues Report post Posted May 3, 2013 Thanx David!! for the background I mostly used puncher A104 and for slight 3d on the lettering and other detail i just used P975... I usualy go over the background couple of times to get that sandy look and to loose tracks of tool shape... on some older stuff it bothers me now when I see tracks i dont like ) Have to get some more tools but not sure about quality when buying online... all the stuff I got are from this most famous american firm called Taiwan lol thanx for replying!! cheers, Silk

Cyberthrasher Report post Posted May 21, 2013 I hate you - in a good way Spent a while looking at your tobacco pouches and harp cases the other day too. Makes me want to start ordering up some different upholstery leathers and get to work on some stuff in my head.

silkfatblues Report post Posted May 21, 2013 Thanx guys @Cybertrasher, sometimes I get lucky and find some old scraps and leftovers that can still be used, sometimes people give up on working and sell this stuff realy cheap, machines and all, allways a good bargain. Choose what's good and can be used or reused, machines for parts and stuff like that... this last seat gave me a lot of trouble... I have copied the peices from the original thin fake leather... so, the real leather is much thicker and the whole thing didn't fit as it should have... a lot of stretching and forcing it to fit... finaly I decided to cut some sponge off :D and it worked... so, everything in place now and realy confortable to sit in... cheers, S

Yeah, I worked on one 2up seat and it's still sitting there because all those curves gave me issues. Granted, my leather was too thick for it, but it was still enough to make me cringe at the thought of doing more.
