Scary Leatherworks Report post Posted September 7, 2011 I am looking for veg tanned goat skin 5-6 oz or thicker. Does anyone know anything where you can buy it? I've never seen goat that thick personally. Tandy has some thin stuff http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/department/Leather/Tooling-Shoulders-Bends-Bellies/9153-00.aspx that's all I know of except garment goat, which is 1.5-2.5 oz
whinewine Report post Posted September 7, 2011 Goat is generally no thicker than 3-1/2 oz, maybe 4 oz, tops. Truly, I don't believe it exists in the weights you want- they're small (tiny, actually) compared to cattle.
WinterBear Report post Posted September 7, 2011 (edited) Maybe a veg-tanned tooling calf skin would about the same size as tooling goat and might run about that thickness? Calfskin also tends to be pretty thin though. Edited September 7, 2011 by WinterBear

Blackey Cole Report post Posted September 9, 2011 I just ordered a skin from Zack White Leather It hasn't arrived yet but I hope it will work out for the project that I have upcoming. I don't think it was as thick as you are wanting since it is for little bags that I am reproducing.
amuckart Report post Posted September 12, 2011 Have a look at pergamena.net's goatskins I got a sample from them a little while ago that included some good thick goat. It's pit tanned though, so it acts a bit differently to modern veg tan. The calfskin samples I got from them were the nicest leathers I've ever handled, by a long long way.
