p95loser Report post Posted June 13, 2008 Well, Here is my third attempt at a holster... I must say, it looks better than the other two! I have some proper tools and am learning more "tricks" every time I make something else. Feedback would be appreciated on improvements/changes.
$$hobby Report post Posted June 13, 2008 you know the saying "practice makes perfect"? the more you do, the better you will become. also, you will find areas that need improvment and/or ways to do it easier. with that said, i think the holster looks fine. I must say tho to tone down the gloss please, i had to find my sun glasses...LOL.. you may want to look at protecting the mag release since it may get accidently depressed when unprotected. BOOMSTICKHolsters Report post Posted June 13, 2008 (edited) Here are a few pointers to think about - Consider moving the rear belt slot closter to the trigger guard, so the butt of your grip is pulled in closer to your side. You might want to shift the sweat shield a little bit forward too (or trim it), so you don't trap it against the pistol's back strap when you make an aggressive draw. Adding a sight channel will keep you from getting leather "fuzzies" on your front sight after a draw. It looks like you might have made the holster just a little bit longer than it needs to be. Remember that the holster should be as short as possible with out exposing the barrel (if you are using it for CCW). Finally, try to avoid sharp corners like the one to the rear of the muzzle, as they are easily bent and damaged. Srigs Report post Posted June 13, 2008 Boomstick covered many of them. One improvement that you can modify the existing holster is to cut the "side guard" to the shape of the bottom of the slide grip area. This way the leather does not get in the way of the griping the gun. If you end up making right handed holsters you will need to miss the mag release. Hope this helps, Erik
Jordan Report post Posted June 13, 2008 Keep up the good work and the points raised already covers most of it. I found the tips about finishing on this forum very helpful especially leather prep before applying dyes and keeping contaminants off the leather during the whole build. Those imperfections that show up at the end are the bane to my existence.LOL
