dancingevilgenius Report post Posted December 2, 2011 Hi, New member but been actively reading posts related to my new interest in sewing leather for a few weeks. So I have these 2 machines - a Juki 5530 and a Consew 230. I bought them both in used but working condition for $300. Before I knew better(surfed this forum) I had intended to use these to sew leather. I was thinking I could make some Renfair type boots/moccasins. Think Sodhopper/NativeEarth. I'm thinking the boots, especially the sole, cannot be done with these machines as is. I'd like to have a machine that can handle denim and at least occasional belt leather. I have no problem selling one or both to get what I need. Sooo what does the forum recommend for me? 1) I could sell one and upgrade the motor on the other 2 a 500GR servo motor. 2) I could sell both and get something with a walking foot, and then when possible, upgrade the motor to the 500GR. I have manuals for both and from the manuals it seems that the Juki is intended for medium weight materials while the 230 might be aimed at lighter weight materials. Funny how the Consew looks sturdier. Anyway, what say the forum? Carlos
