Members Leerwerker Posted June 22, 2008 Members Report Posted June 22, 2008 When I bought the supplies for the demo on gold leaf, the guy at the Art store showed me some Interference pigment colors. I bought the gold one and it can turn any paint or dye into a color with a gold shimmer to it. But, a very nice discovery was bronze! I used Eco-Flo Java brown and mixed in a bit of the Interference Gold Pigment. I used it on a piece of leather and it looked like a gold shimmering brown. Then I decided to seal it and sprayd one piece with Fiebings Sheen and the other with Neatlac. Sheen just sealed it, but the Neatlac turned it into the most striking bronze, shimmer and all.... The photo here just does not do it any justice. I painted the Liquid Leaf over the star afterwards and sealed it with the gold leaf sealer. TomSwede Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Very nice and interesting! I'm currently researcing the possibilites for making more and better gold/silver/bronze jobs on the leather so all I read is greatly appreciated. In time I'll look into gold leafing and I have a nearby source for pigments in this spectra and also that funny metalpowder that Tom Banwell is using to coldcast the horns on his helmets.I have found that if you sheen the gold (my golden dye is actually more champagne in colour) a quick coat of saddletan antiquing and sheen again (for sealing) will get a more authentic gold. For my latest project I added some silver dye into the sheen to get small sparkles when the light is right and normally just the very nice red colour under it is what you see.I'll get pics and post later today. Thanks for sharing JOhan!Tom very nice effect. i often add a touch of gold to black leather dye...it just gives it a little bit of bling!!!Do you mean you put the gold into the black dye before applying it to the leather?Tom Quote Confucius - Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without. --------------------------------------------- www.1eye1.se blogg.1eye1.se

I have used silver as well but prefer the effect with the gold. Edited June 23, 2008 by leatheroo Quote "]http://leatheroo.blogspot
TomSwede Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 (edited) I have done experiment with silver in saddletan but most of it comes of when I apply the sealer (with sponge and cloth) so I added some to the sealer aswell. Gotta continue experimenting to get the right amounts silver/gold to dilute the sealerliquid with. I'm making a pair of footpedals for my brothers camaro soon. Gonna try the black and gold and some gold to the sealer aswell. I so envy those of you with sprayguns when it comes to sealers.
