Members GampasShop Posted June 23, 2008 Members Report Posted June 23, 2008 Here is a billfold I finished Saturday. Made this for a volunteer Firemans fundraiser raffle. This is for a little town in Colorado where I have a cabin. Usually try to make something for them, as it really is a great cause. Anyway, tried something new with this one and used Valspar Wood Stain (dang CRS, cant remember the color) and then finished with Sheen. Don't know why the background and the beveling on the one side took the stain and darkened the leather like it did, I really like that. Quote

TomSwede Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 Hey Gampa, the first show off post I se from you look really good I think but the image is a bit small to make it out completely. Is there any chance of getting to see it in bigger format? The lacing look to be really nice and consistent and it looks like you'd be able to pull off a rodtube for your friend. They are a ton of fun to do but hardwork with all that mexican basketweave I put on them. Looking forward to more from you an by the way to the board! Tom Quote
Members GampasShop Posted June 24, 2008 Author Members Report Posted June 24, 2008 (edited) Another try at a larger pic. As far as the lacing, this was probably the best turnout of any that I have done. It just all came together and turned out great. I need to work on a scrap piece and see what the deal was with the woodstain. If I could get it to darken the background and bevel on the whole piece I would be very happy. My wife really liked the color of this and is wanting me to make her something. Tom, I ended up finding a site for a guy that makes rod & reel cases and used one of his pics. The guy on the flyfishing board wasn't looking at spending $1200 dollars for a rod case. Edited June 24, 2008 by GampasShop Quote
TomSwede Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 Now I see the billfold! Looks really great, that lacing is tight and smooth. I've never done these type of motif but I think it looks very good with clean lines and good use of the tools. I sure can understand people in general is not looking into this kind investment for a rodtube, heck I haven't got the means to build one for myself. It's just a nice thing for those really die hard fanatics with rods and reel that costs equally much. Having a leather tube is luxury, having it personally designed with name logotypes, all mexican roundbraid etc is quite overkill when you walk into the fishingcamp. I hope! Tom Quote
