Suppliers In Japan?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I live in Japan and am a first time leatherworker. I'm wondering if anyone knows any reasonably priced leather suppliers in Japan?

I speak Japanese (And read it) but the leather suppliers I have found so far are expensive and offer only small sizes of leather like A4 sheets.

I found an interesting link here on this forum but lost it...

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it very much!

The ebay guy going by craftsjapan (or very close to that) would be a good place to start. he sells a lot to import here but I would have to imagine he would sell within country too. He is usually reasonable in what he has listed on ebay.

Simon runs a company from Japan called 'GoodJapan.' You also have Kyoshee Elle, Craft Japan, K-craft, Lefty's Leathercraft, Shop Cram. Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Thanks King's X, Shop Cram especially has good pricing on leather, caiman crocodile skins for around $170 and they have a lot of selection of other stuff too.

The goods-japan guys have a great English website, unfortunately if you're living in Japan you end up paying a lot more by purchasing from them. May be a good option for people living overseas and without Japanese ability though.

Thanks guys.

From my understanding their supplies come from the 'big' leather retailers and suppliers in Japan. Kyos Elle, Craft Japan, Seiwa, etc. I believe it might be the same places where Shop Cram, Nobel Leather, etc get their supplies. You probably have more access to the suppliers since you are there like us here in the USA. Either way, I wish you luck. By the way, Cram's embossing work is AWESOME.

Kings X, do you have the website addresses for the other ones you mentioned I've got Craft Japan, Seiwa & Leftys but the others aren't coming up in searches, I buy stuff from Simon but I may have a friend going to Japan next year and they said they would have a look around for me.

Thank you

Cheers,

Clair

I think the below Kyoshin Elle website has a comprehensive list of leather craft suppliers in Japan.

Including Shop Cram ( http://www.shop-cram.com/ )

Hello

I might be able to help, drop me a line at info@goodsjapan.jp with what you have in mind. Unfortunately leather here's a bit pricey, ranging from ¥130-¥200 a dashi (9cm x 9cm if memory serves correct) and if you're outside the Kanto area shipping is almost as expensive as international post, though if you order bulk I might be able to get a discount.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
