Concho / Bead

Hi everyone,

I have a request for a four strand roundbraid that has a "concho" every ten inches - but I think the person had the terminology wrong, becauese the description sounded more like a big bead that is incorporated or slid over the braid.

Has anyone done that before or can you point me to a tutorial in this regard ...?

If you make a hollow braid I'm thinking you could afterwards bring in a strand in the centre via a 10 inch long needle type guiding piece and every ten inch bring the this strand out to attach a concho, bring it in the next 10 inches and so forth...

Downside of this might be the stiffening of the braid and probably some kind of bends were the centre strand comes out if it's too tight and if too loose the conchos might appear all wobbly and poorly installed.

Just a thought. Better check back with the customer to see what is really requested.

I have seen where people have worked a silver tube into their braiding there is an example in the thread "Closed reins and romal" on page 3 in the braiding section.

Yeah, I was thinking maybe they wanted ferrules.

I just thread them on. Here is a set of romal reins I just made for a customer, made of horsehair and thread:

It's different in a way because I am using an 8-strand round braid here, and also of course these are miniatures, but I do it the same way on a full-sized set.
