i need sum advice

im having trouble 'cutting my top piece to short, how much more are yall giving yourself on the edges?

and also latley i have been using a "pitchfork" style tool,and the holes are turning out to close together and too many,

im going back with a single punch, question,

how far apart seems to work best?

iveonly done a few seats and i thought i knewit all,so i never asked questions,THANK YOU FOR THIS SITE!!!!!

3/8" - 1/2" seems to work fine for me.

how are you cutting it too short? i normally make a paper template for the top. i have also heard of guys using tape. covering the whole seat and then cutting out the pieces.

hole spacing depends on the pattern you are using

If you use the tape method, don't stretch the tape!!! It will shrink when you remove it. I use paper like Beeza said and cut it just so it breaks over the edge, if that makes sense.

For hole spacing I generally use anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2" , both for the spacing and distance from the edge. That's if you're doing a typical cross pattern lacing. Different lacing methods have there own rules, that depend on the width of the lace or thinkness of the leather. most lacing books will give you that info. hope that helps,
