Members Uncle Dannie Posted January 26, 2012 Members Report Posted January 26, 2012 I have a smooth gunbelt that I wish to do some carving on to match a holster. Can this be done? I don't want to experiment on it and ruin it finding out I can't carve on a finished piece. Quote

Hello, I am not an expert and I have not tried this, but I'm pretty sure you won't be able to carve the belt. It probably has a finish on it that will prevent it from casing properly, and that finish may interfere with the burnishing (shading) the tools would normally make. However, if I am wrong hopefully someone here will set us both straight. Bob Quote
Members MHolzer Posted January 28, 2012 Members Report Posted January 28, 2012 It's possible to strip the finish with a deglazer, but I honestly have no idea if the leather would still be toolable. Quote
