Members Patrick Shea Posted January 27, 2012 Members Report Posted January 27, 2012 Can anyone give me an opinion or personal experience about a pfaff145h4.It has been recommend to me by a local dealer that a 145 is the way to go. I am sewing fairly heavy oil tanned leather mainly in the production of bags and cases. Is this correct or am I heading in the wrong direction? Quote
Techsew Ron Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 (edited) The Pfaff 145 H4 is a great medium weight machine, you can sew up to about 16oz to 18oz thick using 138 thread and #23 or #24 needle. You could even push it to a #207 thread. This is a good machine for sewing bags and cases, however depending on personal preference you may want to look at a cylinder walking foot machine if you need to get into tight corners or the insides of a bag. Moderator Art Posted January 27, 2012 Moderator Report Posted January 27, 2012 The 145 (and it's brothers) is a fine flatbed. For your application, I would recommend a cylinder arm like the Pfaff 335. There are also good clones of that model by TaKing, the 335N and the 735N (heavier machine). The Pfaff 335 is also a great binding machine; TaKing makes it in binding machines too.
