DCKNIVES Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Just finished these up. Hope you like them.Dave This one is for a Lucas Burnley knife. I tried to keep this one simple so no tooling, just lined and inlaid with Rayskin. This one is for an Alan Folts dagger. Tooled, lined, inlaid with Alligator belly.I carved the concho out of Ivory
BOOMSTICKHolsters Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Excellent work as usual, Dave. I really like the tanto's sheath.
Shorts Report post Posted June 30, 2008 I'm a sucker for dark colors - beautiful work. The ivory is an elegant touch.
fishguy Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Now if I was gonna be a real geek, I would point out that technically that is an aikuchi not a tanto because there is no tsuba (guard) and that the rayskin inlay is neat because that is the same kind of rayskin that they use under the wrapping on Japanese sword and knife hilts (though the wrap is rawhide). But as I am not a geek I will not mention that.

BOOMSTICKHolsters Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Now if I was gonna be a real geek, I would point out that technically that is an aikuchi not a tanto because there is no tsuba (guard) and that the rayskin inlay is neat because that is the same kind of rayskin that they use under the wrapping on Japanese sword and knife hilts (though the wrap is rawhide). But as I am not a geek I will not mention that. I could be a bigger geek and point out that "aikuchi" refers to the koshirae (mounting style) where the saya (scabbard) and the tsuka (handle) meet up without a tsuba (guard) in between, but I won't mention it either; thus, this ultra geeky conversation never took place.... Either way, those are some great looking sheaths! I really enoy seeing your work, Dave.
DCKNIVES Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Thanks guys.I am just glad the customer didn't want a "correct" sheath or I would have to learn all that and be a geek too .Dave
