jetman1981 Report post Posted February 19, 2012 A good friend asked me to make an Avenger style holster for his new Ruger P95. He wanted it simple, without a lot of bone work. So this is what he received. I want to ask how some of the experts how they keep their white thread from picking up the dye from the holster when sewing. I waited two days after dying to begin my hand saddle stitch, but there was still black dye being picked up by the thread. I wanted the white thread to really be bright, but it ended up dull and almost gray. Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Second --- I don't use black dye mainly because of the problem of rub-off, Even big-name commercial makers have rub-off with their LEO rigs. I use vinegaroon when I have to make a black holster. timbo33909 Report post Posted February 20, 2012 Black dye is notorious but all dyes bleed when casing the leather. I hand stitch my work so i use bees wax on my thread and that helps a bit. Tim
steelhawk Report post Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) I used vinegaroon on my last holster and the white nylon thread got some bleed off from it. Is there a way to prevent or minimize this? Edited February 20, 2012 by steelhawk
JoelR Report post Posted February 22, 2012 My only concern with the setup is how low you have the belt positioned. Fully loaded, that is a heavy magazine and I'm afraid it will want to fall away from the body over time. Here is an avenger for a similar sized P97 I made a couple months ago (right-handed instead of left as ordered, so it just sitting in my 'done' bin collecting dust...). As to the white thread issue, I'm still trying to figure it out myself.
