Members redeye00 Posted March 13, 2012 Members Report Posted March 13, 2012 I am looking at a Singer 211-166 that can use needle sizes 135-16 and 135-17. Can you tell me what thread sizes this machine can handle? I am wanting to be able to sew two layers of 4-5 oz veg tan leather for small to med size projects. Thank you all for your advice and opinions. redeye00 Norm Quote
Members andyb Posted March 13, 2012 Members Report Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) Redeye, While my join date is a few years back, I am just a newbie to leatherworking. I picked up a 211G155 a month or so ago and am still getting acquainted with it. I think the 155 is an older version of the 166, and I think the 166 has reverse (the 155 does not). The thickest thread I have is some bonded nylon 138, and my machine has no problem using it as the top thread and in the bobbin. I've ran a few passes on some double layers of 8 oz veg tan with no problems at all, so I'd think two layers of 4-5 oz would be easy on the machine. I do not know what the thickest thread you can use in the 211 is. Andy B. PS- KB3WPN, 73! Edited March 13, 2012 by andyb Quote
CowboyBob Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 I usually recommend the largest you can use without giving problems is #138,IF your careful & you hold the threads carefully when you start sewing & tighten up the needle thread tension alittle more 207 might work. Oh,you need #22 needle for 138 thread & #23 for 207 thread. Bob Quote
