Leather Girl Report post Posted April 16, 2012 Why is this in this section you ask. Well I am about to try and put some semi precious gemstones into a medieval style headdress. I was wondering if anyone has successfully done this and they stayed in. If they have been successful, what did you use to keep the stones in etc. Thanks so much, Randi-Lee
Spence Report post Posted April 16, 2012 Why is this in this section you ask. Well I am about to try and put some semi precious gemstones into a medieval style headdress. I was wondering if anyone has successfully done this and they stayed in. If they have been successful, what did you use to keep the stones in etc. Thanks so much, Randi-Lee I embedded some rather large stones into a dog collar last year. I used D-6000 cement. (I can never remember the first initial) I found it in a hardware store, but saw it recently at WalMart. I let it set for 3 days before I picked it up again. The stones have stayed put, although the collar is not an everyday collar. I would think it would work on a headdress. I'll try to post a pic. G'luck. Leather Girl Report post Posted April 16, 2012 Thank you, Spence, I will definitely try that and the dog does look very regal and proud of that collar. Randi-Lee
radar67 Report post Posted April 16, 2012 E6000 is the glue you are looking for.
Sylvia Report post Posted April 16, 2012 I think I would be tempted to bezel set the stones with Viking knit too.. The Viking knit would help to protect the stones since most "semi-precious" stones are soft and tend to chip. And the back of the bezel could provide a way to attach a thong to thread through the leather and tie off. Between the glue and the thong... it would definitely stay put. nuncanunca Report post Posted May 9, 2012 I realize this is a little late, but you might look up forum member Kate and also look at some of her jeweled browbands here: http://www.irishhuntersandjumpers.com/LeatherPage2.html I believe there is a way to stitch semi-precious beads into the work as additional security against losing the stones.
